How counselling can help

If you are feeling troubled by worries or difficulties which are preventing you from leading the life you want, counselling can help. I can offer you the opportunity to explore your concerns in a non-judgmental, safe and confidential space. Counselling allows you to talk through your experiences, and to understand how these might be connected with your current difficulties. In the process, you will begin to find new ways of looking at your life, and hopefully new strategies for dealing with issues that have been causing you distress.
I believe that the key to the success of counselling is in establishing a trusting relationship, where you feel listened to and understood. This can enable you to find the courage to explore topics which might feel too sensitive or upsetting to discuss with friends or loved ones. You may wish to work short-term on a particular issue, or perhaps to have longer-term support, to give us time to think things through together, at your own pace.
After an initial discussion on the phone or via email, we will meet for our first session, which is a chance for you to tell me a bit about yourself, and what you're struggling with. If I feel I can help, and you feel comfortable with me, we'll arrange to meet weekly at a regular time. That slot will then be yours for as long as you want it. We will have regular reviews to discuss how our work is going.
